Early Childhood Training Program

Program Description

The Child Development Council Early Childhood Training Program offers pre-service and in-service training to the 19 child care centers, 21 family child care providers, 10 group family child care providers and 13 school-age programs in Cortland County. Our classes are also open to any informal child care providers or community members. We collaborate with the child care programs and other organizations that have a stake in quality child care, to bring the best training possible to the Cortland early childhood community.

Impact Story

After child care providers from YWCA Learning Adventure attended “Connecting Children with Nature Every Day” they were excited about adding more nature to their outdoor area. We were able to visit their site and give some suggestions. They wanted to garden, but the woodchucks were destroying their plants, so we were able to purchase fencing with some grant money. We also purchased tools, a bird house and wind chimes to add more ways to interact with nature. The children have started plants indoors, and are looking forward to planting them outdoors when the weather settles.
